TB - Tall Bearded Irises
Tall Bearded Irises are the most common group of irises, often called garden irises. In this group you will find large-flowered irises, usually 70 cm to 120 cm high. In Europe, they come into bloom on around 10th May. We cultivate them with love in South Moravia region of the Czech Republic. They are easy to grow and fully frost-resistant. From tens of thousands of bred varieties you can find here our selection of the best, easily grown sorts coming mainly from European and American breeders. Flowers are large, mostly wavy, sometimes of exotic shapes, one- or multicolored, differently dotted or stripped, often pleasantly fragrant. Flowers grow on one main and 2-4 side stems. Each of them has 1-3 buds, so 7-12, even 15 flowers gradually bloom in one plant. These irises love sunny locations; they can be planted individually, or together with other perennials. Flowers are very suitable for cutting.
For better orientation, TB irises on these pages is possible to sort by height into two groups:
Tall Bearded Irises - higher than 90 cm
Tall Bearded Irises - up to 90 cm (71-89 cm) high
They can also be sorted by flower color, fragrance or flower type:
Self – i.e. one or more tones of one color
Bicolor – i.e. two different basic colors
Plicata – striped, dotted, splashed etc. on a white or colored base
Space Ager – with beards extended to a few cm in length - in the form of horns, spoons...
Broken Color – basic dark color with wild light splashing, or light background with dark pattern
We accept orders from April, bareroot plants are sent (by Zásilkovna or Czech Post) from mid-July to the end of September. If you want to order both bearded irises (TB, SDB, MDB) and peonies, you need to order peonies on a separate order, because we send bearded irises in the summer, but peonies in autumn (or in early spring). Together with bearded irises - siberian and spuria irises, daylilies and hostas can be ordered.

Flowers ruffled, standards delicate salmon-pink, falls cream white, pink mauve border. Beards tangerine orange-red, prolonged to the horns. Slight sweet fragrance. Beautiful sort belonging to Space Age Type Irises.
ROMANCE (Cayeux)
Pink-and-white standards, white falls with a beautiful sky blue border and long tangerine red-orange beards. The edges of the flower are gracefully waved. A magnificent variety with delicate blooms. Height 80 cm.
RARE QUALITY (Schreiners 1999)
Standards and falls white, deep plum purple edge. Beards blue, yellow hair tips and in throat. Height 90 cm
RARE COIN (Ghio 2014)
Standards gold, falls white at beard washing to light yellow toward petal edges, precise deep brown rim. Beards yellow. Height 80 cm.
QUEEN'S CIRCLE (Kerr 2000)
Standards white, falls white with dark blue edge. Flowers beautifully ruffled. Beards orange red, pale yellow at end. Slight fragrance. Height 80 cm.
germanica Spectabilis
Standards blue to blue-violet, falls blue-violet, bent down, around the white bears with a fine pattern. Height 40-50 cm. Blooms in May. Nice iris, especially suitable for sunny rock gardens. Flowering time April / May. Fine iris for sunny rock gardens.
OUT OF THE DARK (Black 2007)
Standards light buff washed medium purple, falls buff, wide purple plicata band, dotted and sanded inside band; markings heavier over haft, sanded luminata-plicata patch around beard, sanded line down center, ruffled. Beards white tipped burnt orange. Slight spicy fragrance. Height 100 cm.
INK PATTERNS (Johnson 2007)
Standards and falls white, strong blue-violet stitched edge, ruffled. Beards white tipped violet blue. Slight pleasant fragrance.
MILLENNIUM FALCON (Kasperek 1998)
Standards light blue, silver white streaks, falls violet blue with silver white streaks, ruffled. Beards yellow-orange, hairs tipped blue. Slight fragrance.
DRACULA'S KISS (Schreiner 2009)
Standards dark purple, falls elegantly ruffled, dark purple-black. Beards bright tangerine orange. Robust and healthy growth. Plant height 90 cm.
FLORENTINA
Flowers of a very faintly bluish shade rather than pure white with some greenish-yellow veining on the haft and a deep yellow beard. Wild species, coming from Italy and Southern Europe. Flowers very pleasantly fragrant!
CHELSEA BLEU (Cayeux 2004)
Standards pale blue washed lavender, falls velvety pansy violet; beards bright orange-red. Pleasant slight fragrance. Very beautiful French sort.
RARER THAN RUBIES (Blyth 2006)
Standards light burgundy-rose, falls burgundy to plum red, velvety. Flowers ruffled and laced. Beards tangerine red. Sweet fragrance. Height 100 cm.
WORLD PREMIER (Schreiners 1998)
Standards blue white, falls dark blue violet with white rim, ruffled. Beards yellow, blue at base. Height 95 cm. Highly prized iris.
PURE INNOCENCE (Sutton 2006)
Flowers heavily ruffled, white. Standards palest lavender at base. Beards white tipped yellow, elongated to white flounces. Slight sweet fragrance. Height 85 cm. Belongs to the Space Age group.
PALLIDA ALBA
Natural species growing on sunny places, fully frost-resistant in Czech Republic and Germany. Standards white, falls white, bented down. Beards white. Height 50-60 cm. Flowering time May. Fine iris for sunny flowerbeds.
MIST ARISING (Blyth 2008)
Standards lemon cream, lavender midribs, falls lavender, slightly deeper flash, heavy gold hafts, ruffled. Beards orange, elongated to 3 cm long purple horn. Height 90 cm. Wonderful iris of the Space Age Type.
LIBELLULE DE SOLOGNE (Bourdillon 2005)
Standards white, light blue violet midrib, falls light blue-violet, paler around the beard and on shoulders. Beards white with long light blueviolet flounces. Beautiful French iris of the Space Age Type.
HAVING A PARTY (Johnson T. 2014)
Standards white, slight orange flush at base, orange-gold wire rim. Falls white ground, orange veined shoulders and edge around large violet-purple washed falls. Beards bright orange. Sweet fragrance. Beautiful color combination, excellent sort.
HIGH CLASS (Black 2003)
Standards pale blue, darker crystalline rim, midrib violet, falls dark velvety purple, narrow medium violet rim, white veins by and dart at end of beard. Beards orange gold in throat, violet at end. Pronounced sweet fragrance.
PAUL BLACK (Johnson 2003)
Medium dark purple blue self, nicely ruffled. Wide beards dark orange. Pronounced spicy fragrance. Excellent sort, unique colour combination, many shows winner.
MYS HORN (Muška 1999)
Standards pure white, heavily laced and ruffled, falls white with lemon yellow infusion at base, ruffled, laced. Beards light yellow with long white spoon. Slight pleasant fragrance. Excellent sort from the Slovak breeder.
MOONLIGHT SKETCH (Nejedlo 1998)
Standards blended silver, grey and lavender, falls cream ground heavily speckled yellow, brown and lavender on upper half, wide silvery lavender edge. Beards mustard yellow. Slight sweet fragrance.
