Semi-woody peonies (Itoh)
Semi-woody peonies, or Itoh-hybrids, were created by multiple breeding of woody peonies and herbaceous peonies. Although they are woody on the ground, their size corresponds to herbaceous peonies (they usually grow to a height of approx. 1 m). The leaves are darker green than herbaceous peonies and also thicker, more leathery. The flowers are simple, semi-double or double, very similar to the flowers of woody peonies. They bloom relatively early, grow upright, do not lie down, make compact, hemispherical bush. Cultivation is similar to that of herbaceous peonies, they are best suited to a sunny or slightly semi-shaded location. Similar to other peonies, they are very long-lived plants that can last for several decades in a suitable place.
We send strong roots of flowering size with a minimum of 3-5 buds. Orders all year round, peonies are sent bareroot in fall (October, November, December) and early in spring (late February and March).
